We Are Pop-Redhouse Summer Exhibition

-- PRESS RELEASE --

RedHouse Originals present
‘We Are Pop’
at the John Mackie Gallery
17th July - 1st August 2009

RedHouse Originals is delighted to present 'We Are Pop' at the John Mackie Gallery, Harrogate.

An exhibition of paintings, prints and sculpture by some of the finest artists working across the Pop and Urban genres including Banksy, Peter Blake and Keith Haring.

'We Are Pop' is a celebration of imagery from and inspired by the Pop Art movement, which has resulted in an astounding collection of works documenting the impact of Pop Culture and how today’s artists have responded to this phenomenon.

There will also be an opportunity to view new works from Jeff Koons’ protégé Charles Lutz. Lutz has been working from his Brooklyn-based studio at a ferocious rate, and featured in the show will be works from his recent ’Louis Vuitton’ series including the seminal ‘Stacked’ sculpture.

Local interest…

'We Are Pop' will feature original artworks from a dazzling array of international artists, and there is also a strong local connection within the exhibition; this will be a unique opportunity to view and purchase work by some of the most exciting artists from Yorkshire, from both established and emerging names. Pioneering Pop artists Doug Binder and Dudley Edwards lead the line, and available from the opening night will be signed ‘Summer Of Love’ posters, featuring the famous ‘Magic Piano’ the pair painted for Paul McCartney in 1967. Also exhibited will be new works from some of the most popular and well respected names within the Urban genre including Neverwork, Ezra, Rourke Van Dal and Replete.

Notes for editors:
Red House Originals
From sought after original artwork and limited edition prints by a host of international artists, RedHouse Originals offer the finest in contemporary art and photography.
Local Interest:
Doug Binder & Dudley Edwards
Binder & Edwards were responsible for some of the most groundbreaking visual art of the 1960s and on show will be a selection of images documenting their contribution to ‘Swinging London’.
Terry Cryer
Hailed as "The Dean of UK Jazz and Blues photography" by The Guardian, Cryer's stunning portraits of Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jnr and others heralded a new era in popular culture.

Maria Slovakova

Currently exhibiting work internationally from London to Slovakia, and preparing for large-scale installation pieces at the Latitude and Pohoda Festivals, Slovakova will be showing new work in her inimitably vivacious and engaging style.
Craig Dyson
Dyson’s extraordinary sculptures have really captured the imagination. At just nineteen years old he has set tongues wagging amongst a host leading London galleries, and Dyson returns to his native Yorkshire after a recent trip to the Bolivian jungle studying for his next eagerly anticipated new series.
Neverwork
Following a busy year we are delighted to be featuring a selection of new paintings and de-collages by the infamous Urban Situationist. Hot on the heels of a hugely successful show in Philadelphia, Neverwork will be bringing his unique take on politics and punk, exhibiting his trademark brand of urban detritus and social decay.
Ezra
Ezra started 2009 in style with their ‘Culture Ape’ triptych featured as part of the ‘Fifth Floor Exhibition’ at the Tate Liverpool. The Northern-based collective will contribute new works to ‘We Are Pop’ following their recent ‘Filth Lucre’ street campaign.
